Profile
Having gone
triple platinum with album sales in India, nominated for the MTV
immies and penetrated the subcontinent on tour, a mass following
has been initiated. Yep... the hype is everywhere despite the album
not having been released in the UK or North America. On the club
crawl in the UK and India I've witnessed DJs counting their blessings
as they repeatedly spin "Rock tha Party" to liven up even
the stalest of party joints. Award ceremonies and fashion catwalks
alike are hooking on to this infectious sound making the rockers
a showcase magnet.
The Bombay Rockers
hit UK soil last year and gave crowds at the Star National Mela
an intense wake up call. For those of you who haven't experienced
these guys, let me set the scene. The music from their first album
"Introducing Bombay Rockers" has extractions from all
genres - pop, rock, hindi, & hip-hop, all constructed to flow
in a synchronized lyrical volley between the duo. If you felt you
were moved simply listening to their tracks then be prepared to
escalate this experience by watching them live as they morph into
slick stage performers. They are well branded with energy at the
core. From the pulsating visuals, to their entrance, performance,
choreography and clothes - everything dissipates a feel good energy
that transcends to your hips and invigorates your soul. Warning:
in your quest for auditory stimulation be prepared to simultaneously
lose control over your facial muscles as "Teri Tho... Teri
Tho" resonates at the tip of you rolling tongue.
So who are the
Bombay Rockers? Both in their mid twenties, let's meet the partners
in crime - Thomas Sardorf and Navtej Singh Rehal. Navtej is without
question the new icon for South Asian artists in Denmark symbolized
by a pillar of vocal strength. Thomas equally has all the attributes
of a star and seems to genuinely love this Indian vibe. As a producer
he has amazingly embraced all its elements from the classical instrumentation
to the raw street lingo. Janus Barnewitz, also a producer at WCA
production manages their busy diary ensuring no fragmentation in
the camp.
Having grown
up centrally in Denmark they have been able to live without boundaries
to what is perceived to be the "in" sound of east-west
fusion music and they have stretched out and evolved independently
at their own pace. Chilling out with the Bombay Rockers, its clear
that their vision is not constricted by fame but that they are open,
expressive and seriously on the wild side. They are definitely the
guys you would want to hang with in your posse or have at your house
party as they exude a sense of graceful funkiness.
